Someone on the second floor in an apartment directly above me was cooking and decided to go out and have a smoke. Came back to discover her pan was on fire and instead of dousing the flames, set the pan in the hallway. Causing alarms to go off. Sadly, the alarms in this new construction building are short of alarming, as I was not aware of the commotion until I heard someone banging on a door upstairs. That was 20 minutes into the ordeal, when I opened my front door and was confronted with a wall of smoke. Luckily there were no casualties, only people who were over come by the smoke and were already under medical care for breathing problems. At one point there were at least 8 fire trucks out front, including a ladder truck.
